On a typical weekday, you would occasionally see Jordan bouncing around the office, spreading his positive and boundless energy to his colleagues – not unlike Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. At other times, he’s at his desk, allowing his creative juices to flow as he works on designing and improving our websites, editing videos or even stunning visuals for our next upcoming project.
Every few months, he also gets to go down to our preschools to take photos of the children in action, which he always looks forward to. After all, he misses interacting with children, having been in his current communications executive role for just a little over a year.
Previously, he was a kindergarten teacher for 3½ years, where he had the honour to educate and nurture 4 and 5-year-olds.
His colleagues are always amazed and shocked by his ability to maintain such a fulfilling life outside of work as well, often asking him, “so where are you going tonight?”. Most of his free time is spent pursuing his interests such as dance, running, piano (he has a Grade 8 qualification by the way), and of course keeping up with his treasured network of friendships.
As he celebrates his 28th birthday this year, he's decided to do away with throwing a party. He also does not wish to receive presents this year. Despite being a person who often loves being the limelight, he wishes to bring attention to a group of people close to his heart instead. They are none other than the children in our schools who live with developmental needs.

Jordan is spearheading a personal campaign to raise funds for our Educational Support Programme (ESP), aimed at providing essential assistance to children with additional needs. He hopes to raise a total of $28,000 for these children who require specialised support to access educational resources and opportunities.
We chatted with him to find out more about the campaign and why he’s doing this fundraiser.
Q: How long will this campaign run for?
Jordan: It will run from now till the end of July 2024. My birthday is on 21 June but I want to reach as many people as I can. So, a 2-month 'celebration' it shall be!
Q: How can one contribute to this campaign?
Jordan: You can get involved with this campaign in two ways: by making a monetary donation or joining me in completing my goal of running 280 kilometres – 10 kilometres per $1000 that is donated! This is probably my loftiest running goal I’ve had so far.

Q: Why are you so passionate about championing for children with needs?
Jordan: I am deeply passionate about this cause not only because of my belief in equal access to education but also because of my personal journey with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which I developed in my early 20s. Living with ADHD has presented its own set of challenges, including struggles with acceptance of the condition. In fact, I was only officially diagnosed by a doctor in 2022 when I was 25.
However, through my experiences, I've learned that when people believe in my potential, it has a profoundly positive impact on my growth and confidence. This realisation fuels my determination to ensure that children facing similar challenges have access to the support they need to thrive. For myself, getting the appropriate treatment and having a loving and encouraging community helps me cope well!

My mom quickly found that routines are a strong tool for me to manage life better. When conversing with me, she is also aware that from my point of view, my thoughts in my head are sometimes slightly disorganised or ‘everywhere’. Till now, we continue to learn about each other's communication styles to facilitate our mutual understanding. My peers and friends are also tolerant of my antics and give me reminders and feedback so that I get better at regulating myself. Q: Why is inclusive education so important for children? Jordan: It's essential that all students, regardless of their abilities, feel welcomed and supported in their learning environment. Children possess a keen awareness of emotions, requiring adults to understand and listen to them attentively. Specially trained teachers also possess specific skills and knowledge to effectively support students with diverse needs, including understanding various learning styles and utilizing assistive technologies.
Thus, with the right support from our teachers in our Educational Support Programme, we can witness the transformative change in the lives of children with added needs. By advocating for our Educational Support Programme, I am not only advocating for equal educational opportunities but also for the empowerment and success of every child, regardless of their circumstances. Having a firm foundation and grasp on how to navigate the world with their added needs from a young age will go a long way for them way beyond preschool years!
Q: How can the general society begin to be more accepting of those with added needs? Jordan: Well, society can start by promoting empathy and understanding. Education and awareness campaigns can dispel misconceptions and stereotypes. Encouraging inclusive policies in workplaces and public spaces promotes equal opportunities. Providing platforms for individuals to share their experiences can humanise their challenges. Celebrating diversity and highlighting the contributions of those with additional needs fosters acceptance and inclusion in society.
Moreover, it's imperative to address stigmas and misconceptions surrounding special education. We must strive to create a culture of acceptance and inclusion, where individuals with special needs are valued members of society.
